Rashes on the inner thigh are a skin condition and shouldn’t be seen as a disease or a health ailment. It’s a condition when the skin on the inner thigh gets red and itchy along with inflammation.

Inner Thigh Rash Causes

  • Usually the affected area has been in contact with something causing allergy or irritation that brings out the rash as a skin reaction. This could possibly include products containing chemicals such as shampoos, shower gels, creams, bathing soaps or detergents that are used to wash undergarments.
  • People with chunky thighs have a lot of rashes on the inside of thighs as the thighs keep rubbing against each other while walking or running. This kind of irritation is also known as intertrigo and causes inflammation and reddening of the affected area.
  • Sometimes the poisonous components found in herbs like ivy, oak etc could cause a rash if it comes into contact with the inner thighs.
  • Insect bites are also another reason and the rash caused by them is also known as Lyme disease where a round shaped wound like condition turns into a rash.
  • Diseases such as the Rocky Mountain spotted fever can also give birth to inner thigh rashes.
  • Allergy: Allergy causing food items and medicines are the fastest agents causing skin rashes not only on the inner thighs but also elsewhere on the body. It is not practically possible to have all food items tested  for sensitivity check but the common ones are known and include seafood items such as oysters, shellfish, tuna, berries such as strawberries, Peanut or peanut containing items such as peanut butter or spreads, avocados etc. Usually the reactions to such items can be controlled and it is very rare that it turns fatal where it not only affects the outer body but also internal organs such as kidneys, intestines, joints and even heart. They symptoms could range from nausea, vomiting, sweating to difficulty in breathing.

 

  • Diseases that may cause Rashes on Inner Thighs:

Diseases such as psoriasis, eczema, impetigo are a few health ailments that could aid skin allergies such as rashes or eruptions. In fact patients with psoriasis often face rashes on the inside of the thighs. Some autoimmune diseases are also responsible for this problem where the body cells are invaded by their own immunity which is generally experienced when the body is attacked by some foreign objects.

  • Cycling:

People who cycle regularly face a lot of skin rashes especially on the inner thighs due to the friction and the sweat makes it worse. Regular cyclists are pretty much aware of it and it is also called saddle sores. The rashes begin as burning hot spot which if ignored could turn severe turning into folliculitis causing a bump or blister at the hair follicles and could be also filled with abscess. If thus stage is also ignored then one might need surgical intervention.

  • Jogging: Just like cycling, there is friction along with sweating when one runs or jogs because of the cloth. That’s why one must always opt for cotton undergarments especially during summers when the chances of developing a skin rash are more.
  • Nappy rashes: Rashes on the inner thigh are also very common among infants who wear nappies. Usually the infants have chunkier thighs as compared to the other parts of the body which increases the chance of rashes. When the nappies are filled with urine or excreta the chances of rashes are more.

Treatment

  1. The treatment actually varies according to the condition. For instance, in the case of eczema the problem can be treated by using corticosteroids that would reduce skin inflammation and irritation and itching. However since they are steroids, one must not use them excessively.
  2. Anti-allergic drugs have been traditionally prescribed in dermatology to reduce the discomfort but the effects are short lasting.
  3. It is very important to keep the skin hydrated though moisturizing such as Vitamin D and retinoid creams.
  4. Scorbic acid is another remedy to heal such wounds faster as it contains antioxidants that helps the rashes to fade away. It could further be aided by Vitamin C pills to treat the inflammation at the affected area.
  5. Home remedies such as cleaning the area chamomile tea, oatmeal scrub, apple cider vinegar with honey as a mixture are some of the most trusted ones that would help in reducing irritation and treating rashes.
  6. Applying olive oil or cod liver oil is also relieving.
  7. Herbs such as Neem, licorice and holy basil are also helpful.
